UNTITLED - MY NEW FAVORITE

This is currently my favorite painting. It's about 10x10 inches and has a lot of texture. I used the palette knife to scrape a gold/bronze across the surface to help bring out the textures below.

BUD FLOWER

This painting is oil on canvas and has been the inspiration for many future paintings. I have taken this flower and painted it in many different sizes and colors.

WORKS IN PROGRESS

ALOE VERA

My mom gave me a photo of a room that had an aloe vera photo in it and asked me to paint it for her kitchen. This painting was originally much darker with deeper greens, some black and a dark blue background. This was too dark for her kitchen so I went back in and added the highlights and lightened the background. I'm glad I did and I'm very happy with the way this turned out.

DARK VS LIGHT

Of everything I have ever painted/created, this is my favorite. It has so many layers beneath it and continued to change over the course of 6 months. It started as a dark vs. light study. Then I mixed a glaze to rub over the lighter side to create shadows and reverse the sides. The light became dark and the dark became light. At one point, the waves were smoke and there was a microphone coming out of the smoke. Over time, it was finally covered as I built up the textures of the blue areas. This is oil on canvas.

MY FAVORITE QUOTE

A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind.

A SUNFLOWER SCENE

This was one of my very first oil paintings, done in the spring of 2006. I set up a still life for the initial layout and then took it in my own direction.

DAHLIA PAINTING

I did this painting during the summer of 2006 for Lisa. I was inspired by a photograph of a dahlia in an issue of Communication Arts. The shape of the background was initially inspired by a black and white orchid I found in the same issue but took a different turn as the layers developed. This is oil on canvas.
